What is fiberglass?
Fiberglass refers to a group of products made from individual glass fibers combined into a variety of forms. Glass fibers can be divided into two major groups according to their geometry: continuous fibers used in yarns and textiles, and the discontinuous (short) fibers used as blankets, or boards for insulation and filtration. Fiberglass textiles are commonly used as a reinforcement material for molded and laminated plastics.
Ordinary A-glass (“A” for “alkali-lime”) , was the first type of glass used for fiberglass. E-glass (“E” because of initial Electrical application), is alkali free, and was the first glass formulation used for continuous filament formation.S-glass (“S” for “stiff”) is used when tensile strength is important, and is thus an important building and aircraft epoxy composite (it is called R-glass, “R” for “reinforcement” in Europe). C-glass (“C” for “chemical resistance”)

Fiberglass Types And Applications
There are varies fiberglass types and different applications from the filament to roving,chopped strand,and then woven fabrics, CSM,muti-axial fabrics,coated fabrics,texturized fabrics, blended fabrics,tapes,etc.
Filaments sized with a chemical solution and bundled in large numbers to provide a roving. Rovings used directly in a composite application or make CSM or fabrics.
CSM is made of randomly oriented small cut lengths of fiber all bonded together.It is typically processed using the hand lay-up technique with isotropic in-plane material properties.Fiberglass needle mat is made of continuous fiberglass yarns or chopped strands and sewn by thousands of needles.
Fiberglass cloth is a strong and durable woven textile used mainly for industrial, non-apparel applications.It is naturally resistant to heat, fire, water, chemicals, pests and bacteria.The fabrics include:woven roving,mesh,tape.
MULTI-AXIAL FIBERGLASS FABRICS Include Unidirectional Fabrics (0° or 90°), Biaxial Fabrics (0°, 90°), (±45°), Triaxial Fabrics (0°, ±45°), (90°, ±45°), and Quadraxial Fabrics (0°, 90°, ±45°). multi-axial fabrics are in advantage of high strength, excellent stiffness, low weight ,thickness, and the improved fabric surface quality. CSM or tissue could be added on the surface or in the middle.
coated fabrics or texturized fabrics are treated textiles with different coatings(i.e. PTFE, Alumium foil, Silicone,Vermiculite,PU,Acrylic) for extensive applications of thermal insulation, fire resistance, welding protection in Petrochemical,Power station,Shipbuilding,Metallury,Automobile industries.
Blended fabrics with aramid,stainless steel wire to applied in the insulation industry and offer better properties such as mildew and abrasion resistance,self-extinguishing and stronger and durable.
Except types above,fiberglass could also be made to be tapes,felts,grind wheel disc etc based on customers’ requirements.
